"That Rare Beast A Superior Page-Turner That Manages To Pull At Your Heart." --David Baldacci

The Brightons are just an ordinary, small-town, law-abiding family. Until somebody else's mistake uncovers the truth--Jake and Carolyn Brighton are the FBI's two most wanted fugitives. Jake and Carolyn have lived a lie for fourteen years to protect themselves. But now they have to protect their thirteen-year-old son, Travis. Their only chance is to return to the hellish scene of an unprecedented crime, and collect the evidence that may finally set them free--if they can elude a massive manhunt long enough to get there.

"A Flat-Out, In-Your-Face Thrill Ride, Filled With Unexpected Twists, Sinister Turns, Clever Plotting, And Top-Drawer Writing. Gilstrap's Characters Are Wonderfully Sketched And His Dialogue Is Rich With The Language Of Real People. At All Costs Demands To Be Read. At Any Price." --Lorenzo Carcaterra

"Heart-Pounding." --Tess Gerritsen

"An Irresistible Roller Coaster Of Suspense." --Robert Crais

At All Costs eBook John Gilstrap

Well done! The plot moves quickly -- the reader must pay attention, as it is complex. I had to back up a couple of times to make sure I "got" it. The book is believable and well researched. Can't think of a different way to put it than the somewhat cliche, "I couldn't put it down," but that's the case. Not many thrillers draw you so deep into the plot that the reader almost feels tired from participating in the non-stop action, wondering how the characters are going to get out of trouble. Then, after a breath or two, wondering how they will handle the next challenge. And there are a lot of "nexts," for both the main and the secondary, or supporting, characters. I've just purchased two additional Gilstrap novels and undoubtedly will buy more.

At All Costs eBook John Gilstrap Reviews

Riveting... Exciting... A real page turner... John Gilstrap never lets me down. I have read every book he has written and they are all incredible reads...
I especially enjoy his series, Jonathan Grave. Each book is a stand alone story. But readers should start from book one to get the full impact of the characters....
He is a wonderful story teller....
This was definitely one of his best. I wish I had read this before reading the entire Jonathan Grave series. It wasn't necessary, but it was interesting to see Irene Rivers play a major role in this book and see where she began. I would have liked a little more background on her life. This was really exciting from beginning to end. Now I am at that terrible place where I have read all of his books and need to explore some new authors since I have read all of my favorites' books to date.
I downloaded At All Costs during the recent summer sale of titles. I had never read anything from Gilstrap but the plot synopsis looked intriguing and the price was right. I decided to give it a try and was not at all disappointed. It was definitely a "page turner." The story starts with Jake and Carolyn Donovan, who had been hiding in plain sight from law enforcement, as they are forced to quickly activate their escape plan and go on the run. The reader is pulled through frequent action as the Donovans fight to preserve their family at all costs while uncovering a deep conspiracy. Although perhaps implausible in spots, the author effectively conveys the urgency of the action. The story is supported by solid character development throughout. All-in-all, this was a good initial impression by an author not known to me. I will be back for more from Gilstrap.
While it wasn't a bad read it didn't capture me and drag me in. I love when the suspense keeps pulling me to READ READ READ, and while the premise of the story was okay, the thought processes of the characters seemed too over the top, or far too laid back. A lot of grimacing as expressions, and the lead FBI agent on the case didn't seem very developed, or to have much expertise.

I wouldn't call it a waste of time, but it doesn't make me want to rush out to pick up other books of his.
I really enjoy the way John Gilstrap weaves his stories together out of dozens of threads. What do a U.S. senator, a manager of a body shop, a picked on kid, a bureaucrat at the EPA, his unhappy wife, an FBI field agent and a ruthless Chicago businessman have in common? You’ll have to read this book to find out.
I loved this book. I wasn't sure for the first chapter or two if I was going to be able to figure out the story. But being a devoted fan of this author, I easily found myself immersed in the story line. It was non-stop action and suspense, from the first page until the last. And it had enough unexpected twists and turns to keep the reader fully engaged with the plot and storyline.... this is an amazing read. Settle on in with the characters and the sleepless nights and prepare to be entertained. I'm pretty sure you won't be sorry.
Like all John Gilstrap books, At All Costs grabs you from page one and doesn't let go. In the opening chapter, the reader is thrust into the lives of Jake and Carolyn; normal everyday people with normal everyday jobs, a son and a home, until one incident sends them fleeing for their lives, on the run from the police and FBI. By chapter two, we find out the couple hold the number one spot on the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list. They have been in hiding for the last 13 years and don't intend to give that up now.
Enter Irene Rivers from the Jonathan Graves series. As FBI agent in charge of bringing Jake and Carolyn in, she must not only save her reputation by capturing Jake and Carolyn, but unravel the question of if they are really guilty.
As a huge fan of John Gilstrap, I was thrilled to read the story of how Irene Rivers got to the top of the FBI. This is a woman who demands her own series. She is tough, capable, smart and tender all at the same time. I'd love to read more of her story.
If you are a Gilstrap fan, you will love At All Costs. If not, you will be after reading this.
